OGA PC Mission:

The OGA Players Club Handicap Committee is in place to protect the integrity of the game and our local activities.

Each player has an equal and fair chance to win based upon how they play that day, every time a player plays a round of golf, from the first tee and to the end of  the round.

You must post a score for every round you play (with certain exceptions). If a member does not post a score, the committee may post a penalty score. Multiple offenses may result in a modification of the golfer’s handicap index.

For rounds played in the Northwest from March 1, 2019 to November 30, 2019.

Away Scores

If you play golf where the season is active (even though Oregon is not posting) you must post that score.

The easiest way to do that is to post at that course on the day you played.

All scores are sent back to your GHIN record at your local club.
You must post a score played at courses that are still in season (example: in Arizona over the winter).

Knuth System

NOTE: The Knuth system for exceptional tournament play was implemented beginning Aug. 6, 2014. Players Handicap will be adjusted for repeated high net score finishes. The Board of Directors, in an effort to “level the playing field” in our club golf tournaments, has adopted a Tournament Point System developed by Dean Knuth, former Director of the Handicap Department of the USGA.

The Knuth Tournament Point System awards points to net score finishers (regardless of gross score) in our club’s major tournaments. Major tournaments for the Players Club are on the monthly tournaments on the Calendar – for example, Member-Guest Championship and Club Championships. Not included are Women-Men mixers, Wednesday and Saturday cash-pot games, or event scrambles.

First place Net Finishers in OGA PC major tournaments with at least 20 players will be awarded points to the individual, or all of the team members, as shown in the Point Assignment Table shown below. Points will also be given to 2nd through 5th place finishers. Points are accumulated over a two-year period and are recalculated before each tournament. This accumulation will begin with the 2015 season.

Point Assignment Table
        ————- Field Size ——————

Finish            Up to 20 21-49 50-99 100+

First Place                3       4       5         6

Second Place          2        3       4        4

Third Place              1        2        3        3

Fourth Place           0        1         2       2

Fifth Place               0        0        1        1

Once a player accumulates 7 points during any two-year period, his handicap for a major tournament will be reduced by two strokes for club competitions only. For each additional 3 points accumulated, an additional 2-stroke reduction will be taken. Full deductions will be in effect starting May 1, 2015.

These deductions will only be used during OGAPC tournament play and will not affect a player’s USGA Handicap Index issued by OGA.

The Players Club Handicap and Rules Committee will randomly check members’ score posting so that no attempts to manipulate a players Handicap Index are made to make up for these adjustments.

The committee believes that the Knuth Tournament Point System will make our major net results more competitive and give more players a chance to finish at the top.
